Make an example of the value chain of a restaurant
The value chain is the basic business tool to analyze the sources of competitive advantage,
it is a systematic means that allows to examine all the activities that are carried out and
their interactions. It allows the company to be divided into its strategically relevant activities
in order to understand the behavior of costs, as well as the current and potential sources of differentiation. (Porter, p.51)
How a generic value chain is constituted
A value chain is made up of nine generic categories of activities that are integrated
into characteristic forms. The generic chain shows how a value chain can be constructed,
reflecting the activities it carries out. Likewise, it shows the way in which the activities
of which it consists are connected to each other and to those of the suppliers, of the channels
and buyers, also indicating how these links affect the competitive advantage.
